First blog in a while.
Things are looking up again at the firm we have 3 new clients.
There are many things i have learned this year, but mainly : I have learned how to apply myself more strategically and efficiently. This is and always will be the acilles heel for many design based professions, in order for us to make ourselves the product we must be able to manage our creative process all the way through to the final design has been signed off.
All successfull architects have a hurricane driving force, the thing seperating the sheep from the wolves is how well this driving force is implemented and in turn how well the aftermath is managed. For now I am focussing on the 1st step how to manage my creative ideas without manipulating the process.

been an eventful time since my last entry,
The firm i'mworking for Schreuder + Schreuder is going through some difficult times, since the start of August my working hours have been decresed by 40% this also applies to the salary i will be earning.
Times are tough many of the major firms are resizing to smaller numbers to stay afloat and working on smaller projects which then directly takes away the lifeline of smaller firms.
For the time being untill our 8th of Aug submission i will be hanging tight, i will however be starting to look for a new job after this

Hi
Was an eventful week, did alot of photography on completed projects, to use as entrie in Architectural competitions, which is the best marketing tool any architect could ask for.
The secret to photography of architecture is not to line up the lines or get the photo symmetrical enough, but rather to indicate how that space would feel if you were really standing there, if that makes any sense.
To do this you try and get a as much of the space into one frame and then start focussing on the individual areas that makes this house/intrior so amazing to look at as a whole.

Breaking Ground
Hi
This week one of the projects i have been working on for several weeks has started with construction, and its been an amazing experience...
To see something take shape in reality let me realise things don't always look the way you imagine them on the pc or in your mind, in this case it was better!
I also did some bathroom layouts for a project that will be starting in july, things there will be more complicated than the one that broke ground now, it presents a new challenge on the ladder of experiential learning.

baby steps
this week i did almost nothing at work, maby i'm exagerating but compared to the usual routine this week has been a breeze.
I'm house sitting for my boss while he's away so this has presented a new set of challenges new routine and morning rituals, he has a dog "Leo" that is 16 years old and needs to be walked every 4 hours so you can imagine how that changes your dayly routine.
on the other hand i had my first solo site meeting this included the builder 3 clients (this was a community project) a consultant and the financer, everything went untill they started juggling ideas of their own which meant drastic changes to what we've been working on for several weeks now, this was when i put my foot down and explained the logic behind our ideas and how they manifested in this way.
Needless to say everyone agreed and the builder received his deposit on the same day. Construction will start on monday, its empowering to wear the mantle of go-to-guy on a project, even a small one such as this.

House sitting
This week
Was slow the architect of our firm went on holiday this wednesday so now we will be running the show till the 13th of June, meaning alot of responsibilities have been passed down.
With everything that is happening such as some projects that are starting with construction this week, and various designs we have done for a clients kitchen need to be tweeked to her specifications so added ontop of that i will be meeting the clients next week.
My life is awsome! working with people on a face-to-face bases is trilling, you don't have the time to consider which key to press or which words to use. I know this much confidence is like butter it makes everything taste better.

Voting

Havent made a post in a while, its good to be back though things are going well, this week we had the elections which means wednesday was a holiday, and breaking this week up into 2days each.
Started reading the book "Thinking Architecturally" and its a fantastic information source...
there are alot of subjects which are covered in depth the 1st excercise we were give refers to a passage that discusses the Pantheon with the cathedral of notre dame it all comes down to smart design,which is what makes us the future.
There will always be symbolic structures and monumental projects, and they will continue to develope, our goal however must not be to aim in this direction of thinking but instead keep a horizontal head by manner of speaking, the future for us lies in the simplicity, efficiency and sustainability of structural design.
An architect is an artist of space, and to allow our masterpieces to manifest we must remember that true design is allowing space to roam freely while only chanelling it.
